Social media is an important part of marketing your business. The strength of your online presence will determine the success of both your social media reach and your content marketing efforts. Developing a strategy and understanding each platform’s demographics will help your marketing team determine which platforms work best for your business. Here are some social media marketing tips that will help boost your presence on social media.
Other than “Social Media Marketing Tips and Tricks,” this headline doesn’t tell us anything about the article or what it’s going to contain. If you’re trying to grab attention off the bat, use a title that makes your reader curious enough to want to read further. This article was originally published on Medium in October 2015. While I don’t even agree with all of the tips given, I think the article could have been a little more fun to read.
Let’s take a look at some social media marketing tips and tricks that will help you build your brand on social media and grow your following.
1. Choosing The Right Platform Is Important:
Our target audience also largely determines which platforms you should be on. For example, if your product is aimed at teens then Instagram is a good idea but if it’s aimed at business people then LinkedIn might be better.
You don’t need to be on every single social media platform out there. When you construct your social media strategy, consider which platforms will work best alongside your strategy. Decide how each platform will complement and support your brand and be the best platform from which to market your product or service.
You can determine what platforms your target audience uses by surveying them (I know!) or by looking at who watches and likes your videos on YouTube.
2. Create accounts that represent your brand:
Your username should be connected to your company name and should be consistent across them. Using different usernames for each platform can be confusing for your followers and will make your company harder to find on different platforms. Your short description should be able, to sum up, who your company is and what you do.
The reason I think this version is better than the original is that it is brief and more inviting. If you are part of a startup, everything you share on social media should tie back to the brand image of your company. In my opinion, this focus on branding really shines through in this new version of the paragraph. In contrast, the original emphasizes how to set up social media profiles that can be difficult to follow if you aren’t entirely familiar with how to use them related to branding.
3. Using Social Media For Marketing Is Synonymous With Consistency:
If you want to be able to post frequently, you’ll need to create a schedule. That may mean posting pictures on Snapchat and videos on Facebook regularly or writing a blog post every week. At the very least, you should be posting something every week or so on each platform. Consistent content will help you gain more followers and get more engagement over time.
You can reuse content across multiple platforms, so it doesn’t have to be new from scratch every time you post something. There are many ideas that you can repurpose for different audiences:
Like any good strategy, creating a social media plan takes some time to really nail down. You’ll want to examine what works well on the various platforms your business uses and what your audience finds interesting, but you also want to set up a consistent posting schedule so that you don’t waste too much time trying to figure out what to post when. Once you have that figured out, your marketing efforts will benefit, and your social media community will likely start seeing positive results.
4. Promote.
We tend to think that our job is done once we publish our blog posts or upload a white paper to our website. We’re wrong! Promotion is the most important step when it comes to content, and if you don’t promote your content on social media, your content won’t get very far at all.
I always add social media icons to my blog and website so readers can easily share my content on their social media platforms. You don’t want people to only see your content, but also want them to share it with their followers. Many companies use hashtags when promoting their content; however, use them correctly, or it could backfire. For example, if you manage a small online apparel company that sells dresses for young women, you might want to use hashtags like #dressesforwednesdays #fashionforwomenunder30 #dressesfordaydates #dailystyleinspo, etc. This will help buyers find your site in search results or gain new followers on Instagram and Pinterest. If you click on one of these links, they will lead directly to the page where you have an image of a dress like this one:
It is important to remember that not all content should be shared on all social media platforms, so it is important to do a little research if the platform has special rules on the type of content they permit and other types of content users prefer to see. I haven’t used hashtags long enough to gather this type of data but some communities on Twitter and Instagram can be pretty strict about what does and does not work.
So far, I am amazed at how effective promotion through social media can be for my business! If you haven’t done any advertising before, social media is a great place to start!
5. Interact with your followers.
On top of creating content that’s valuable and engaging, it’s important to interact with your followers and be consistent with posting. You should make it a habit to respond to mentions, messages, and comments and put in a lot of effort if you want to cultivate loyalty among your followers. If you engage with your followers from your company and consistently provide value, they might become one of your best advocates.
Being active on social media can also boost your SEO since it helps you rank higher in Google searches. There are even some companies that consider social media as their SEO strategy!

Other than my uncle, who works in Sriperumbudur, no one in my family works anywhere outside India. This includes my mom, dad, and cousins(12 of them). So when I told them I wanted to take up a job that involved shifting abroad, they were thoroughly confused. They also felt sad and belittled as they thought I was leaving the family forever 😊. But hey, when given my choice I can hardly say no to Netflix documentaries, the comfort of a remote work-life balance, or switching jobs 😂😂😂 but more importantly finding the right career opportunity!!!
